With a successful pregnancy and delivery, I am now ready to share how Ethan is our miracle baby. We started trying to get pregnant in May 2006. We had recently been introduced to Natural Family Planning, so we had a vague idea of how to time conception. That summer, we took the Couple to Couple League class on Natural Family Planning. That was interesting. Since it is sponsored and held at a Catholic Church, we were quite the minority. More than half the students in the class were young couples who were forced to attend so they could get married in the Catholic Church. Many openly admitted they were already on birth control. Anyway, I digress.
We learned a lot about how my body works and how God created natural birth control within me. We charted and charted and still no baby. We knew we were doing everything right, but trusted that it wasn't God's timing. Fast forward to summer 2007. Frustrated and a little anxious to fulfill our lifelong dream up to that point, we cashed in all of our stocks and took our backpacking trip through Europe. Immediately upon returning home in September, I visited my ob and had blood work done to see what the hold up was. Everything was normal. Next, we had Phil tested.
It was discovered that Phil was only producing 4 viable sperm (ones that could fertilize an egg) out of 200 . Most men produce well over 100 out of 200. We were stunned. After some research, we learned this was a genetic predisposition and had a small possibility of being corrected with a surgery that comes with non-desirable side effects. We prayed and prayed and prayed. We made an appt. with a urologist. My ob wasn't very hopeful. Her exact words were, 'you can make an appt. with a urologist to see if there is anything they can do'.
My daily prayer became, "God it only takes one and you control that one." I believed and we continued to chart. October 30th, the month after testing, we found out we were pregnant. From that moment to now I have never doubted God's control over our lives. Phil had accepted the job here in Austin just the day before we found out we were pregnant. I knew this was all God's perfect timing and his provision. Now, we have our baby in our arms, a living testimony to God's faithfulness and promise. I'm praying for all you friends out there who are trying to have babies and are not pregnant yet. God can and will bless your home with babies, in his time and in his way. Praise Him for his faithfulness.
